VividQ Reveals New Solutions for High-Quality Holographic Display Development
VividQ stays at the forefront of research and development in Computer-Generated Holography. A wealth of innovations, developed by our technical teams, translates into regular releases of new software and hardware solutions that we are proud to offer to our customers, building the next generation of digital display applications.
This month we released Version 5.0.1. of our Software Development Kit. At the heart of the SDK is the completely new algorithm for hologram generation. Since its first release in 2019, VividQ SDK has evolved, achieving continuously better compute performance when generating 3D holograms of even greater image quality to the eye. The new algorithm “Triton” works hand in hand with two completely new, licensable hardware designs that together achieve major improvements in three areas of holographic display: contrast, despeckle, and colour balancing.
CONTRAST: New core algorithm for great holographic imaging
Thanks to clever algorithmic advances, the VividQ SDK can offer the highest image quality for real-time holographic projections on micro-displays (specifically on phase LCoS). The Triton algorithm reduces noise in the holographic images, resulting in a superior background contrast. Through configuration options in the SDK, our customers can now trade off different characteristics of the holographic display system against target compute requirements. The improvement that Triton brings to black levels in the holographic image is clearly visible in greyscale:
DESPECKLE: Smooth results in laser-illuminated projections
Holographic display systems using coherent laser light tend to suffer from the so-called “speckle” (or laser noise). VividQ is proud to offer a new, revolutionary solution for speckle reduction (patent pending). It creates smooth holographic projections while maintaining high resolution, at low compute. This is particularly important for high detail applications in AR wearables and automotive HUDs. This solution, powered by VividQ SDK, is offered as a licensable optical design. This is the first time that realistic, lifelike holographic images can be generated in 3D:
COLOUR BALANCING: Efficiency gains from better laser control
Integration between displays and light sources can have a tangible impact on the quality of holographic projections. Better control over the system improves the experience, especially for real-time content, where laser power needs to adjust perfectly for each new frame. VividQ is proud to announce the release of a compact hardware solution for laser balancing, compatible with a range of micro-displays. The solution, which is designed to work in concert with the VividQ SDK, is offered as a licensable reference design. By removing the need for custom driver electronics, VividQ’s technology for holographic display is now accessible to any manufacturer wanting to create advanced applications of Computer-Generated Holography, using off-the-shelf SLMs, in a compact format.
