VividQ Presents at AWE USA 2019
Our Co-founder and CEO Darran Milne was recently invited on stage to give a talk at the 2019 Augmented World Expo (AWE) in Santa Clara, California. In his presentation, entitled “Enabling Mass Adoption of AR: Roadmap to 3D Holographic Display”, Darran highlighted what he considers to be the major challenges in the adoption of augmented reality (AR) today.Darran brought forward a couple of issues preventing AR integration into our everyday lives. The field of AR presents a consumer awareness mismatch, where the average consumer struggles to identify how AR technology applications, such as smart glasses, can affect their behaviour on a daily basis. In addition, currently existing consumer-level hardware does not deliver in terms of style, form-factor, contextual awareness, and provides limited visual experience - an important factor for consumer mass adoption.Considering the limitations of AR, Darran presents computer-generated holography (CGH) as a viable technology solution. CGH, powered by VividQ, generates true depth perception, allowing users to focus and defocus on holographic scenes naturally, just as they would do in real life. While in the past, generating a hologram required large computing capabilities, VividQ software today greatly eases the process of generating holograms. We do this by increasing the speed and frames-per-second, all on a single GPU.Darran concludes his presentation by addressing the audience: “If you want to view the most realistic and immersive experience, you might as well mimic the way the world presents visual information to us. Holography is the way to do that”.To learn more about holography applications, email us at holo@vivid-q.com.[embed]https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=twYLY-DkT9M[/embed]
