VividQ Hosts Internal Hackathon Competition
How far could your tech skills and creativity take you if you and your co-workers had 32 hours? This idea is what VividQ explored at this year’s annual Hackathon competition, hosted as a hybrid setup both online and at VividQ’s Cambridge office.
This year, VividQ staff were challenged to design and prototype: Something that will make you a better person if you use it for 30 minutes a week. The teams were divided into groups of four people, with seven mixed teams of varying skill-sets and experience competing for the top prize. Teams were given 32 hours before pitching to judges CEO Darran Milne, COO Aleksandra Pedraszewska and CTO Tom Durrant. The criteria for judging included adherence to brief, use of interesting technologies, novelty, practicality and quality of the pitch.
Entries included a modified wastebin doubling as a recycling helper, an analytics tool to detect a tone of voice for professional meetings, an app to connect with other commuters locally to play chess and an Alexa skill designed to provide inspirational quotes from inspiring leaders.
The winning team ‘Team Sense’ created a meditation device designed to select lighting, music and smells to create a relaxing mood and improve mental health.
Our hackathon is an annual event that brings all employees together for inter-team bonding and learning. We constantly test and challenge our assumptions when working with disruptive, industry-defining technologies. We achieve this by continually questioning and learning from each other. We are an inclusive, diverse group of individuals.
