VividQ Awarded Innovate UK Smart Grant of £334K
VividQ Awarded Innovate UK Smart Grant of £334K
VividQ has received a Smart Grant of £334K ($434K) from Innovate UK, the UK’s innovation agency, awarded to ambitious and disruptive R&D projects. The grant will fund our groundbreaking industrial research and the development of a first-of-its-kind Holographic Headset Prototype.The prototype will provide a hardware platform to showcase VividQ’s latest cutting-edge algorithms for Computer-Generated Holography (CGH), providing an enhanced visual experience and ergonomics, with the best-in-class optics and tracking provided by our Partners.Holographic images generated from the latest prototype will also provide the best image quality available in holographic display today, creating a natural, realistic and immersive experience for viewers. The prototype will be available to view at industry trade shows and events throughout 2021, and available directly to OEMs and ODMs as a reference in their pursuit to integrate holographic display in next-generation consumer electronics.In the past, the tremendous computing requirements to create full-depth holographic displays have made this technology unsuitable for commercial applications. Our research will aim to address some of the key barriers to the adoption of holography and other immersive technologies by integrating innovations such as:
- The latest developments in optical systems (in particular secondary optics) for high-quality holographic projection;
- VividQ's newest software release for improved colour balance and brightness control.
Developments from this research will also be key to providing high-resolution 3D holographic experiences with full depth of field and wide field of view (FOV) in the future.The submitted proposal received excellent feedback from Innovate UK reviewers, with high recognition for VividQ’s technology as an exciting global opportunity in a high-growth sector, backed by a team possessing the requisite skills and expertise in our field.Darran Milne, Co-founder and CEO at VividQ said “With a viable platform to demonstrate the capabilities of holography in consumer electronic products, VividQ will get one step closer to securing our position at the forefront of the next display revolution. The project will accelerate the market adoption of VividQ's holographic software, enabling our customers to develop and deploy game-changing AR devices.”To support our vision, VividQ has already raised over $7M in venture funding with backing from leading international investors including Sure Valley Ventures, OSRAM FluxUnit Ventures, University of Tokyo Edge Capital and Essex Innovation.Our news was featured in the Business Weekly, UK Tech News, Display Daily and the VR/AR Association websites.To register to demo the upcoming prototype headset, email us at holo@vivid-q.com.
